We are studying Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. Last Friday we discussed the story's themes. As we read, I would like each of you to continue to reflect on the themes you thought were important.

During the week of April 26th, I would like you to add your thoughts (2 to 3 sentences each, for a total of 4 to 6) on two of the themes. Please use a different color than the previous entry.

1. Family they love their family.
they are a happy family and they look out for each other no matter what happens. They get revenge on the bus and feel a little guilty but they feel happy about what they did.
They are a very close and happy family. They stick together and help eachother out. i feel they are a supportive family and careness is spread throughout them. they would definetely stick up for one another if they were in trouble.

I think they are a suported family. They are a shaircroping family. I think that the Logan family are very closes. Also that they don't let anyone scare them.I think they have a strong relationship together because they stick together through everything. I like how they help each other no matter what

2. Racism/hatred they hate when the white kids bus splash them with water.
they are a black family and they just don't want the white bus especially for little man to get a dirty and for him he wants to be as clean as possible! but its funny when they make the big ditch so the bus and fall on top of it and get's not just stuck but like the engine broke so the bus actually broke in pieces and they have to fix it. They all feel racism a lot, it especially happens and effects little man because he doesn't exactly understand racism. He especially got mad when the bus made his clothes really dirty. the family dislikes and is against racism, they don't think it is right. i like how little man only thinks of getting dirty while the rest of them only care about getting revenge on the "white school bus".
I think they are deling with racism in a calm way.Little man did not like geting splashed with water, walking to school.I think that racism really effects little man because of the bus.I think they have learned a lot about it through this whole book beacause at first cassie didnt know alot until things started to happen her mother told her about it.In this story there is a lot of hatred.

3. Fear that if they go to the one store if they hurt or don't come back or die.
their family always has fear of someone or something that is bothering them. especially when the knight riders went and she got so afraid that she just stood there thinking what would of happened if they would of caught her she was terrified just thinking about it. i think there main fear is the night riders. also they don't know exatly what is going on with the school bus like if the white people will find out and get in trouble for it.
They have fear of the school bus and the kkk members. I think that cassie has fear of the night riders. and fear for tj and for her land at the end of the book. If i was cassi i would be very scared

4. Land the land is all they got that they own. their pride is in the land because that is the mast important thing they own.
they are good helpers and they are very smart what they are doing and Mr.Morrison is helping them work in the farm to but Stacy is a little suspicious why Mr.Morrison is really here. Their has to be a good reason why. i think their land is basically the reason they are not poor and suffering like other families. i am pretty sure now that Mr. Morrison is not working to help on the field but for protection.
They have land but they dont own it. I think that here land is special to them because their the only black people who own their own land. The land is like part of their life it keeps them together and helps them apprciate things more. The land is very important.

5. Courage/bravery when little man and Cassie did not take the old white school's books. when they made a ditch in the ground to make the white school's bus get trapped in the ditch.
they are a good working family that can take very hard hits in there life. they stand up for who they are and they don't back down. They keep on trying until it's truly done/finished. They look out for each other if somebody does something to one of them they do something to all of them. They just want a peaceful way to figure things out and just get along with people with other race. little man has a lot of bravery for being that young and going against a whole big bus. Stacey also has bravery because he lied about the cheating sheet.I think that cassie and little man had bravery in school when they didn't want to take the school books because of what it said. They are very brave through out all things theve been through I think that they are very brave and mature for their age
